🎅 Santa’s Survival Guide: Stay Festive, Not Frazzled

Enjoy the Festive Season Without the Blowout

The festive season is here — the BBQs, the work parties, the “just one more slice,” the cocktails that magically keep refilling themselves. It’s a wild, wonderful time… but it doesn’t have to derail you.

You work hard all year. You train consistently, you push yourself, & you’ve built momentum that actually feels good. The goal now isn’t to cancel the fun — it’s to enjoy it without slipping into the messy cycle of overdoing it, feeling fatigued, & starting the new year feeling like you’ve been hit by a reindeer.

Think of this month as a chance to practice balance, not perfection.

navigating parties, BBQs & big christmas lunches

No need to hide from social events — just go in with a little game plan:

  • Eat like a grown-up before you drink like an elf. A protein-forward meal earlier in the day keeps you in control later.

  • Scan the table first. Go for the things you’re actually excited about, not the fillers.

  • A simple “one plate, one refill” rule. Keeps you satisfied without the food coma.

  • Keep something green on the plate. Even if it’s just to make your coach proud.

smart swaps that still feel festive

Small tweaks make a huge difference — without stealing the joy.

Drinks

  • Swap sugary cocktails for spirits + soda + citrus

  • Light or mid-strength beers

  • Alternate alcohol with soda water (future you will love this)

Desserts

  • Fresh berries + cream instead of heavy puddings

  • Pavlova over dense cakes

  • Dark chocolate over “accidentally” inhaling a whole box of Roses

BBQ Food

  • Fill half your plate with salads

  • Choose lean meats, seafood, or chicken skewers

  • Grab one thing you love — not all the things

choose your moments

This is the big one.

You don’t need to say yes to everything to have a great festive season.
Instead, decide what’s actually worth it:

  • If Nan’s trifle is a once-a-year masterpiece — enjoy it fully

  • If the office biscuits don’t spark joy — pass

  • If cocktails with your mates matter — pick one you truly love

It’s about enjoying what matters most — guilt-free.

the 31 day december visual: seeing the bigger picture

Below is a visual using Christmas baubles to represent each meal across a week and the full month. December is packed with special moments — parties, BBQs, long lunches, family events — but to keep things simple, I’ve highlighted just the two major ones most families share: Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

This visual is designed to show you something most people never notice: those big festive meals are only a handful of days, not the whole month.

When you zoom out, you realise:

  • There’s plenty of room for training

  • Most days are completely normal

  • You can enjoy your big events fully

  • There’s no need for an all-December blowout

  • Balance becomes easier when you see the month laid out clearly

It helps you stay grounded, enjoy the important moments, and skip the guilt — because in the big picture, those festive meals are just a few dots on the calendar.

dont wait for january - start now!

Too many people hit December & think,
“I’ll get back on track next year.”

You’re not “too busy to be healthy.”
You’re just in a season that requires smarter choices, not a shutdown.

A fresh start doesn’t magically happen on January 1st — it happens every time you choose to:

  • Train even when life is full

  • Eat well between celebrations

  • Enjoy the good stuff without the hangover spiral

  • Make small, intentional choices that keep you feeling good

This is how you protect the momentum you spent all year building.

the takeaway

You can enjoy incredible food, great company, and festive fun without blowing up your training, your energy, or your goals.

Eat the things that matter.
Skip the things that don’t.
Train because it makes you feel alive.
Celebrate because life is meant to be enjoyed.

Walk into the new year proud, clear-headed, & ahead of the pack.

I wish you & your families a very Merry Christmas & look forward to a wonderful start to the New Year!
