Spring Is Closer Than You Think 👀

It might not feel like it yet because... the mornings are still cold, our jackets are still on... BUT spring is only a few weeks away!

Are you counting down the weeks until daylight savings kicks off?? I am!

If you've been showing up to training throughout winter, give yourself some credit. Winter is a tough season to stay consistent.

Every year, as the weather starts to warm up, we hear the same thing:

"I'll start eating healthier now."
"I'll get back into meal prep next week."
"I'll clean up my nutrition tomorrow."

But why wait?

The habits you build now are the ones you'll enjoy when spring arrives 🌼

You don't need a complete overhaul, just a few small tweaks that help you head into the warmer months feeling more energised, recovering better & excited to keep building.

“I Don’t eat much”

This is one of the most common things we hear:

"I don't actually eat that much."

Often, that's true... At meal times.

But when we look a little closer, those little snacks throughout the day can quietly add up.

A biscuit with coffee. A couple of chocolates at work. The kids' leftovers. A muesli bar in the car. A handful of chips while dinner is cooking.

None of these foods are "bad."

The challenge is that grazing often provides plenty of calories without the protein, fibre & nutrients that a proper meal provides. So it's easy to feel like you haven't eaten much... while still consuming more energy than you realise, yet feeling hungry & low on energy.

People often think the answer is to eat less, when sometimes the better place to start is building meals that actually fuel you & keep you satisfied.

Which brings us to…

build your plate

Rather than thinking about what to cut out, focus on what to build.

A satisfying meal is often as simple as:

🥩 Protein: eggs, Greek yoghurt, chicken, tofu, beans or lentils

🍚 Carbohydrates: rice, pasta, potatoes, oats or wraps

🥗 Vegetables: aim for around two cups

🥑 Healthy fats: avocado, nuts, seeds or olive oil

Build your meals around these four components & you'll be far more likely to stay satisfied, fuel your training well, & avoid searching the pantry an hour later.

Make meals easy

Most people don't struggle with nutrition because they don't know what to eat.

They struggle because life gets busy.

Instead of relying on motivation, make good choices easier.

Keep simple meal foundations ready to go:

• Cook extra rice or pasta.

• Roast a tray of vegetables.

• Prepare a slow cooker meal.

• Keep frozen vegetables on hand.

• Have protein ready in the fridge.

When dinner is already halfway done, it's amazing how much easier good decisions become.

a head start on spring

A great target to build towards over the next few weeks:

🥦 Around two cups (or two generous handfuls) of vegetables with your main meals.

🍎 1–2 serves of fruit across the day.

🍽️ If you tend to graze through lunch or dinner, try sitting down to a balanced meal instead.

If that feels like a big jump from where you're at now, don't aim for perfect. Build towards it.

Add an extra vegetable to dinner. Throw some spinach into your lunch. Keep frozen veggies ready to go. Swap one convenience snack for a piece of fruit.

Small additions, repeated consistently, add up.

So when spring arrives in a few weeks, you won't be thinking, "I should get started…"

…you'll already be building the habits that support your health, happiness & performance.
