Soul Rebel Digest Vol 5.25
Let’s talk good mood food
Because how you fuel your body this winter can do more than just keep you warm… it can actually lift your mood and help you feel better mentally, emotionally, and physically.
At Soul Rebel, our focus is on Health, Happiness & Performance. That doesn’t just apply to how you train – it’s about how you look after ourselves outside the gym too. We're not only talking about about the warmer months when getting to the gym is easy. Let's learn to use food as one of the most powerful tools to support your energy, mindset, and recovery through the colder months.
WHY FOOD AFFECTS YOUR MOOD?
Your gut and brain are deeply connected (it’s called the gut-brain axis), and what you eat plays a huge role in how you feel. Nutrient-rich, unprocessed food can support your hormones, reduce inflammation, and keep your energy stable – all crucial for staying sharp and steady through winter.
5 WAYS TO EAT FOR A BETTER MOOD THIS WINTER
1. Eat warm, grounding meals
Soups, slow-cooked stews, oats, and roasted veg aren’t just comforting – they support digestion and stabilize blood sugar. Think: warm meals = warm moods.
2. Prioritise protein with every meal
Protein helps regulate your mood and keeps you full. Eggs, lentils, salmon, Greek yoghurt, lean meats – all great options to keep you fuelled and focused.
3. Add omega-3s to your week
These healthy fats (found in salmon, hemp seeds, walnuts, chia seeds) support brain function and reduce symptoms of low mood or winter blues.
4. Get your colour in
Bright fruits and veg = antioxidants that support your immune system and mood. Challenge: aim for 3+ colours per plate.
5. Ditch the energy rollercoaster
Minimise processed sugar and ultra-refined snacks. They give short-term highs and long-term crashes – not what we want when energy is already lower in winter.
WHAT YOU’LL NOTICE
More stable energy throughout the day
Less moodiness and brain fog
Better recovery from training
Improved sleep and focus
A stronger immune system

Pick one change from the list above and commit to it for 7 days. Share it with me, another coach or training buddy for accountability – we’re all in this together.
Eating well this winter doesn’t need to be complicated. Just consistent, nourishing, and supportive – like your training. Like your community. Like YOU.
Personally, I'm excited to utilise a slow cooker a member gave me a few years back, so my focus will be prepping warm & grounding meals. If you have any recipes, share them with me & I will give them a go!
Let’s eat for strength, mood, and momentum.
Stay warm, Rebels
See you in the gym!
