Soul Rebel Digest Vol 4.25
Connection is one of our 5 Elements of Health.
To have strong connections, first, build your tribe, understand that more isn't always better & work to sustain those deep & meaningful relationships.
So, making new friends or maintaining these relationships can mistakingly put you into positions you don't want or have outgrown. This doesn't always mean you need new friends, but maybe changing the way you see BEING social?
After chatting with a lot of members over the years, when it comes to nutrition, one of the biggest road blocks to achieving their desired body composition, improving their mental health or training goals - is eating out.
Eating out is social. You get to experience amazing foods, different atmospheres & while filling your own cup, you're supporting local businesses to share their passions around food with you!
So, I'm certainly not here to tell you to stop! But I can share ideas that have worked for me & from the shared personal experiences of other members - a great way to learn is from each other!
choose where you go
Suss out the menu beforehand. Ensure there are options that offer higher nutrional value than just the bulk standard parma & chips. This isn't to say these foods are off limits, thats up to you. But its more about how often you're choosing to dine out & if it's regularly, making better choices will get you feeling better & hitting your goals sooner.
switch it up
Try making social catch ups or gatherings activity based instead of pub based. I often hear people saying they went on a bender because their friends wanted to... well, did you want to? If yes, there's no judgements here. But, if in doing so is making you feel terrible for most of the week & keeping you from reaching your goals, maybe it's time to mix it up. Challenge yourself with enjoying live music sober, suggesting catchs up like going for walks, bike rides, a round of mini golf - the options are endless & you can find something to fit any budget. Pack a solid picnic & still make food a part of the experience!
the ripple effect
The ripple effect you can have on the people you care about just by making simple suggestions is pretty amazing. You don't need to be an extremist to make progress or lead a healthy lifestyle, small changes for you might be ginormous for someone you know. But that's the cool part about switching things up, you just might end up inspiring the people you care about to make better choices that then turn their lives around - thanks to you!
See you in the gym!
